Today we visit Mesa Verde National Park, a fascinating National Park established by Theodore Roosevelt to "preserve the works of man". Stop at Spruce Tree House, one of the best-preserved cliff dwellings and the amazing Cliff Palace. Also, we visit the Chapin Mesa Archaeological Museum that depicts the story of the people who once thrived on this 8,000-foot plateau. Later we travel to Durango, a town born in the Gold Rush and silver-mining era, where we'll stay for the next two nights. (B)

Durango/Silverton Train

This morning we board the narrow-gauge Durango-Silverton Train in our pre-reserved Roundtrip Open Air seats for a scenic ride through San Juan National Forest. This legendary steam train winds its way through beautiful Rio De Las Animas Canyon with breathtaking scenery and steep canyon walls. Enjoy free time this afternoon in Silverton, once a major mining town named after the bragging statement by an early miner who said, "We have no gold, but silver by the ton!" Later this afternoon we re-board the Silverton Train back to Durango for dinner and time to relax and enjoy on your own. (B)

Durango to Los Alamos to Santa Fe

Our journey this morning takes us from Colorado to New Mexico. We'll enjoy a beautiful drive with a photo stop at Chimney Rock before making our way to Los Alamos. After a lunch break on your own we'll visit the wonderful Bradbury Science Museum. Here you'll have time to explore over 35 hands-on exhibits and learn about the Manhattan Project in the museum's three galleries. Then it's a short drive into Santa Fe where our Deluxe Hilton Hotel is ideally located just a two block walk from the Santa Fe Plaza Historic Landmark.  Dinner on your own at one of the many restaurants near our hotel. See the Modern State Capitol, Loretto Chapel with its beautiful spiral staircase, St. Francis Cathedral and the Historic Town Plaza, which marks the end of the Santa Fe Trail. After free time for shopping and lunch on your own, we head south to Albuquerque. Tonight enjoy a fabulous Brazilian Buffet before checking into our brand new First Class Hampton Inn and Suites for the next three nights. Our hotel is located just a couple of miles from the Balloon Fiesta grounds which is a fantastic location! Most groups stay further away which means they spend at least an hour or more in traffic going to and from the events and have to wake up by 4:00am to get to the morning events.  We are only a 5 to 10 minute drive for all our Balloon Fiesta events!  (B,D)
